The idea

As a company with a long tradition of sustainable mushroom cultivation dating back to 1980, we are able to implement our ideals of fair and ecological production. In addition to honest dealings with customers and partners, we are a responsible brand committed to 100% quality. The concept of quality, a central element of our corporate philosophy, is reflected throughout the entire value chain.

From the product concept to the selection of the highest quality raw materials and state-of-the-art production processes, we guarantee consistently high quality standards. This commitment not only applies to the production of high-quality medicinal mushroom products, but also to sustainability. Our concept and our fundamental understanding are prerequisites for a lasting and strong relationship with our customers and partners.

Late 70s

With our shared passion for mushrooms, we developed the idea of growing our own mushrooms in the late 1970s. Unfortunately, the mushroom market at the time didn't offer anything more than cultivated mushrooms. As trained educators, however, implementing this approach presented a significant challenge. There was no specialist literature available, and our visionary idea of organic farming wasn't yet popular. The only way forward: gain experience, try things out, experiment, and successfully implement it.

80s

We established our first small mushroom farm on 150 square meters and began shipping our first mushroom spawn. As demand grew, we were able to expand to 5,000 square meters by 1984. In a greenhouse, we established what was then Europe's largest organic shiitake mushroom farm. It took over six months just to inoculate the seed material from 100,000 beech logs with mushroom mycelium.

90s

Demand for organic products grew rapidly, so in the mid-1990s we relocated our mushroom farm to Hungary, where we were already producing up to 10 tons of mushrooms per week. In parallel with mushroom farming, we also focused on medicinal mushrooms as dietary supplements and began powdering dried mushrooms. Our customers had such positive experiences with our dietary supplements that enthusiasm and demand for medicinal mushrooms in capsules and tablets quickly grew.

2000s

Since 2004, we have focused on the production of medicinal mushrooms for nutritional supplements. Together with our Chinese partner, we operate medicinal mushroom farms in the Chinese Highlands, the cradle of medicinal mushroom cultivation in Asia. Natural and sustainable cultivation has a long tradition there, guaranteeing high-quality raw materials. Benjamin Hawlik has been with the company since 2006 and is the second generation to manage Hawlik.
