What does Cordyceps do in the brain?

Cordyceps is a medicinal mushroom that contains natural ingredients such as polysaccharides and bioactive compounds. In connection with the brain, it is often used as part of a conscious diet and an active lifestyle.

The combination of a balanced diet, exercise, and sufficient sleep plays a particularly important role.

When should Cordyceps not be taken?

As with many dietary supplements, there are situations where it is advisable to consult a doctor before taking Cordyceps. These include in particular:

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Planned medical procedures
As a general rule: dietary supplements should be individually tailored and used responsibly.

What effect does Cordyceps have on the psyche?

Cordyceps is often used by people who value a holistic lifestyle. In this context, it is often integrated into routines aimed at mental balance and well-being.

Many users combine Cordyceps with measures such as stress management, exercise, and a healthy diet. Individual perception can vary and depends heavily on personal lifestyle.

Origin, cultivation, and use of the Cordyceps mushroom:

Due to its rarity and the complex harvesting, which will be reported on further below, the prices for real Cordyceps mushrooms are even higher than those for truffles or caviar – one kilogram of fruiting bodies currently costs up to € 40,000. The eight to 15 cm long, thin, brown caterpillar fungi owe their name partly to their appearance and partly to the fact that they actually need living caterpillars as host bodies. The fungi infest the caterpillars of the butterfly genus Thitarodes, grow through them from the inside, and finally form fruiting bodies that are usually about twice as long as the host body. Cultivation of Cordyceps in the classic sense is not possible – it must be hand-collected in the wild. Cordyceps is native to the Tibetan plateau, rarely also in adjacent regions of Bhutan, India, and Nepal. The collection of caterpillar fungi is a central source of income for many farmers and herders of the plateau. In China, Cordyceps is not only a popular edible mushroom – it also plays a central role in Chinese medicine. The earliest written evidence of its use as a medicinal mushroom dates from the 15th century, but it has probably been used for much longer.

Ingredients of the Cordyceps mushroom:

The Chinese caterpillar fungus contains, in addition to numerous vitamins, minerals, and trace elements, special amino acids such as cordycepin, ergosterin (a precursor of vitamin D) and L-tryptophan, as well as various peptides and glycoproteins. Particular scientific attention is paid to the mushroom-typical beta-glucans contained in Cordyceps, whose positive physiological effects are currently being thoroughly researched.

What is Cordyceps CS-4?

Due to the complex harvesting and high price of real Cordyceps, a special cultivated form has now been developed, which yields the active ingredient-rich mycelium of the caterpillar fungus instead of fruiting bodies. For this purpose, the mushroom is cultivated in a natural nutrient solution (no substrate made of grain or similar is used). At the end of the ripening period, the entire liquid has given way to the mycelium. What remains is Cordyceps CS-4, whose chemical composition, according to scientific studies, corresponds to that of naturally growing Cordyceps mushroom to such an extent that CS-4 is officially allowed to be called Cordyceps.

Cordyceps: The energizer among medicinal mushrooms

However, the greatest strength of Cordyceps lies in its antioxidant property: it inactivates free radicals and can thus protect the organism from damage. As with all medicinal plants, the concentration of active ingredients in the untreated mushroom can vary greatly. Therefore, a standardized processing, as ensured with Hawlik medicinal mushroom products, is recommended for the application and dosage of the Chinese caterpillar fungus.
