Vitamin C Complex contains well-tolerated buffered vitamin C, as well as vitamin C from plant extracts and flavonoids for a supporting effect.

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin and is also known as ascorbic acid. It is an organic acid; its salts are called ascorbates. Vitamin C has many functions in the body. The most well-known are its function as an antioxidant and its importance for the immune system. Because ascorbic acid is easily oxidized, it functions as an antioxidant.

Antioxidants, also called "radical scavengers," are compounds that react with free radicals before they can destroy or alter body cells. Because free radicals are constantly produced during all metabolic processes in the body, as well as due to external influences (e.g., smoking, UV radiation, disease), they can lead to the formation of oxidative stress. Vitamin C is one of the body's most important antioxidants and contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. It can also regenerate used-up antioxidants, making them reusable. For example, vitamin C contributes to the regeneration of the reduced form of vitamin E. Vitamin C plays an important role in the normal function of the immune system. The immune system filters and eliminates many harmful pathogens and foreign substances in the body every day. It doesn't matter whether they entered from outside, such as viruses or bacteria, or originated within the body, e.g., during the metabolic process. The vitamin C content is highest in the peel, so peeling reduces the vitamin content of fruits and vegetables. Long cooking and keeping food warm also destroys vitamin C.

Vitamin C is essential for life and must be constantly supplied to the body from outside. Large reserves of vitamin C cannot be produced in the body. Therefore, taking too much vitamin C rarely leads to side effects, as unused ascorbic acid is quickly excreted in the urine. Very high doses can at most have a laxative effect. Certain conditions can lead to an increased need for vitamin C. For example, the human body needs more vitamin C during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, when taking the contraceptive pill, or in stressful situations. Smoking leads to a reduced absorption of vitamin C. Therefore, smokers also have an increased need.
