As we age, the body's natural melatonin production declines. Therefore, older people and seniors are more prone to sleep problems and vitamin D deficiencies. Regardless of age, however, night work, time changes, or jet lag during long-distance travel can severely disrupt the circadian rhythm and throw melatonin levels out of balance. This can easily lead to difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.
