Iron Complex Capsules

Iron is responsible for oxygen transport in the bloodstream, contributes to the normal function of the immune system and influences human performance by reducing tiredness and fatigue.

Iron is one of the most important trace elements and is involved in the formation of red blood cells and thus in the important oxygen transport in the body.

Iron Complex is a combination preparation containing iron in the beneficial fumarate form, vitamins C and A, copper, and citrus bioflavonoids. Although bivalent iron is more readily absorbed by the body than trivalent iron, it is often poorly tolerated.

The divalent ferrous fumarate used in Iron Complex is microencapsulated. The protective coating is only broken down by digestive enzymes in the small intestine, reducing the irritating effect of the iron salts on the intestinal mucosa. Divalent iron is absorbed in the intestine at a rate of approximately 10–20 percent, so it is important to supplement with additional micronutrients for iron metabolism.

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) can promote iron absorption. It converts trivalent iron into divalent iron.

Vitamin A and riboflavin contribute to normal iron metabolism.

Iron requirements fluctuate throughout life depending on age and gender, as well as the associated physical demands. In pregnant women, they can even double at times. A deficiency can lead to developmental disorders in the fetus and miscarriages. After birth, iron requirements are increased for a few weeks to replenish the body's depleted or depleted iron stores. After menopause, the iron requirements of men and women equalize again.

Absorption depends on the food source and the body's needs. Trivalent iron cannot be absorbed by the body at all, while bivalent iron is absorbed in the intestine at a very low rate. In animal foods (red meat, offal), iron is mainly bound to hemoglobin and is better absorbed than bivalent iron from other sources.

Iron from plant-based foods is very poorly absorbed because it forms poorly soluble compounds with the phosphates, phytates, and polyphenols also found in plant-based foods. For example, although spinach contains relatively high levels of iron, it is very poorly absorbed. Vegetarians should pay particular attention to ensuring they have an adequate iron intake.

Other factors that inhibit iron absorption include certain medications, dairy products, soy products, oxalic acid (rhubarb, spinach) and chlorogenic acid (coffee).
