The cardiovascular system consists of the heart and blood vessels. A distinction is made between the systemic circulation (major circulation) and the pulmonary circulation (minor circulation).

Blood vessels supply the body with oxygen and nutrients and transport carbon dioxide away. Arteries transport oxygen-rich blood from the heart to organs and tissues, and veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart.

Standing or sitting for long periods, however, can lead to impaired blood flow and, in the long term, to valve damage and insufficiency. In addition to sufficient exercise, a healthy diet is also important for strengthening our blood vessels. Fruits and vegetables, in particular, contain many nutrients that contribute to maintaining good health.
